Here is your chance to visit the Swedish Glass
Country in the south of Sweden. Växjö and Nybro and
the surrounding area have many highlights that are a must addition
to your Swedish itinerary.
Nelson’s Scandinavia’s independent glass country tour makes it
possible to add this important area to your itinerary with ease and convenience.
Depart from Stockholm or Copenhagen by Swedish
Railways X2000 high speed train. Three hours from Stockholm
or two hours from Copenhagen will bring you to Alvesta. Upon
arrival a rental car will be waiting and after a short drive
arrive in Växjö and your centrally located hotel.
In the afternoon and within walking distance of your hotel
visit the Småland Museum and the House of Emigrants.
You may also wish to visit the Växjö Cathedral in
the same area with overnight accommodation in Växjö.
With an early start drive via Lessebo with an
opportunity to purchase hand made paper used by the Royal Family
then on to Kosta Boda and Orrefors glass works. Continue to
Kalmar for overnight accommodation.
After a morning visit to the Kalmar Castle drive
across the Öland bridge to the island, then driving north
view the vast expanse of the Alvaret and windmills unique to
the island. A visit to the Borgholm Castle before continuing
to Borgholm for overnight accommodation. In the afternoon stroll
through the town and if you wish enjoy a swim in the ocean
before retiring for the evening.
Morning departure from Borgholm and continue
to “Moberg” country. Wilhelm Moberg one of Sweden’s
best known authors chose this area as a setting for his book
the “Immigrants” A movie was made starring Max
Von Sydov and Liv Ullman and the early part of the movie was
filmed in a farm setting and if you have seen the film you
will recognize the setting. There is still time to visit another
of the glass factories before returning to Alvesta for overnight
accommodation and return of the rental car.
Tour arrangements end with a departure by X2000 to either Stockholm or Copenhagen.
